a shadow man hovers above with a black pistol gun,
a woman hides below and waits against a blinding sun.
the shadow stubborn in the dirt's floor,
turns her to an escaping force.
the earth's creek opens its mouth,
and slides her down quiet as a mouse.
a covering water facade holds her head
memory breathes through instead.
the shadow man, now waiting alone
opens the door to the white crocodile's home.
under the white murk, she breathes in water
not afraid, he's turned towards her.
crocodile whispers, her words understood
out of water, she's ready to move.
a burnt sun greets her exit, blistered skin
a running out of time estimate.

(sketch. melbourne winter 2009)
NOTES
the ladies sketched in this drawing are 65 years of age+. age is not the observation but the evolution of human social networks alongside the greater mechanics of the everyday. the mystery of connection and disconnection over time - between people and the universal environment. geometric shapes are of interest to me, replacing parts of the human figure, and in particular the head representing a meeting of minds or a patchwork of human fabric weaving.
